Shana-Tara O'Toole, Ex Officio

Shana founded Due Process Institute after years of criminal defense work and criminal legal reform advocacy convinced her that the Constitution needed—and deserved—its own lobbying firm, particularly when it comes to protecting procedural due process rights.

The erosion of these rights has contributed to unsound prosecutorial and correctional practices, weakened constitutional safeguards, and created profound imbalances within our criminal legal system. Through Due Process Institute, Shana works to address these challenges by advancing practical, bipartisan reforms grounded in constitutional principles.

Drawing on more than two decades of experience in project management, advocacy, criminal defense, and education, Shana is committed to pursuing meaningful solutions that improve the fairness and effectiveness of our criminal legal system while safeguarding against further erosion of fundamental rights.

She is deeply grateful to the criminal legal reform advocates, public defenders, private defense attorneys, congressional staff, public officials, justice-impacted individuals, business leaders, and funders of every political persuasion who partner with Due Process Institute in its mission to preserve and restore fairness, accountability, and due process under the law.
